What can an IP address reveal?

An IP address can usually indicate the network provider and an approximate geographic area. It does not normally reveal a precise street address by itself. Location databases can be wrong, especially for mobile networks, corporate networks and VPNs.

Can I hide my IP address?

A VPN or proxy can cause websites to see an intermediary server's public IP instead of the IP assigned to your connection. That changes the visible IP, but it does not make a browser anonymous by itself.
